It’s been almost a year since Google officially unveiled the latest version of Android, called Lollipop, which means it is the right time to see what will come with the next major update.
Google is celebrating its annual developer conference next week, which is usually when details about the next version of Android are presented. It will be very difficult to see the final product, but we will have at least some idea about the most important features of the new system update.
For now, Android is called M …
Google usually chose names that have a continuity for its new versions of Android, and there is a trend of alphabetically choosing each denomination. For example, Android 4.0 was named Ice Cream Sandwich, while 4.2-4.3 was called Android Jellybean. Then they called Android 4.4 KitKat, and finally the current version, 5.0, is known as Lollipop.
This means that the next version will begin with an M, but it remains to be seen what kind of dessert Google would be choosing now. For a while, of course, everyone will refer to the new Android as M. In fact, Google confirmed that accidentally in its description from a working document, by writing: “Android M is bringing the power of Android to all workplaces”. Afterwards they removed the description.
It could let you log on without entering a password
The next version of Android, which we will call Android M for now, comes with a feature that enables users to access certain applications by using their fingerprint, without typing any password, according to BuzzFeed News. This feature is expected to be officially announced during the coming week.
Clearly, this new feature will not work with all Android phones, only with a few in particular – the ones that have fingerprint sensors.
The next version would focus on intelligent features for home
According to reports, Google has been working on a new software that can provide power to the next wave of smart light bulbs and refrigerators, as reports The Information. Probably part of the Android brand, says the report, which suggests that Google is developing a new kind of Android, specially made for connected homes.
If this becomes true, we will have the chance to see some matching functions on your phone with applications from your house in this next version of Android. In fact, Google has already begun with that, as with Android Lollipop one could automatically use the unlock function if that person was also using an Android smartwatch. It would not be surprising to see some new interesting features in this smart-home dedicated Android M .
That’s all I know about the new version of Android. Do you have any information? What other rumors or information have you learned? As always, I welcome your comments about it, here or on Twitter. I want to know what you think should be added to this next version, what seems unnecessary or whatever comments you have.
